(Read Ephesians 4:25-32)

Looking down the business end of a vacuum cleaner hose seldom accomplishes anything. I was reminded of that again when our church vacuum was putting out its usual 70 decibels, but very little was happening to the pile of remodeling sawdust. If everything were working right, the debris I was trying to capture should have been slurped from 6 inches away from the nozzle. It was beginning to look easier to pick up the fine dust with my finger tips.

Not to be overcome by an appliance, I checked the filters, to no avail. Kicking it seemed ill-advised. Threats had thus far not worked. Surgery was the only hope. The hose was plugged up!

The unseen in a machine or our lives can cause a lot of problems. We think that sinful activities can be concealed. We reason if we are the only ones who know, what's the hurt? We forget, there's a real power lose that others do see, just like in the vacuum cleaner.

Paul wrote, "Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption" (Ephesians 4:3). He was telling them and us that secret sins are not secret to God.

Want to always have the power of God working in your life? Confess your sin and ask forgiveness. Don't go on grieving God's Holy Spirit.
